Entrepreneur in Focus: 24 Year Old Nigerian British Cosmetics Brand Owner Florence Adepoju

Sometimes if you can’t find exactly what you want, your best bet is to create it yourself. Nigerians abroad are continuously killing it and it’s especially pleasing when they’re doing so at a young age. Florence Adepoju started her brand at the age of 17 and has done an exemplary job at showing what consistency and a unique idea can do when combined.

After working at the counter of a cosmetics brand in her early teens and realizing darker shades found it difficult to find the type of makeup they wanted, Florence became interested in learning how to mix make-up in the lab, leading to her decision to study Cosmetic Science at university level.

Most final year students are dreaming of the day they’ll hand in their dissertation and be self-rewarded with the gift of guilt-free partying. Florence on the other hand used this time to draw up a business plan and secure funding for what’s now known as MDM Flow. She started making bright and bold lipsticks inside of her parents’ shed and there’s been no stopping since then.

8 years later, Florence’s brand stands out from every other lipstick brand because its hip-hop inspired, she creates really quirky colours, and the shades she creates are diverse enough to cater to the needs of both dark and light skin tones. Quality oozes from her product starting from the golden bullet shaped lipstick case, to the high quality creatively detailed 90’s hip-hop inspired images she places her product in which creates a vibrant, engaging, and exciting urban story. The lipstick guru has gotten international recognition from mega media outlets as well as influencers within the media industry globally.

Florence is definitely a good source of Monday motivation! We love to see brilliant ideas they meet a specific need, hard work, and consistency from young entrepreneurs across the globe.
